The inaugural season for the Floyd Community Market will kick off with two Grand Openings in May. The official opening for the Artisans Market will be Friday, May 7th with the Farmers Market Grand Opening following on Saturday, May 29th.
Artisans Market
The Kick-Off of the Artisan Market will be Mother’s Day weekend, May 7th. However, a more informal market may start in April depending on vendor interest. The market will run consecutive Fridays with official hours being 4 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with plenty of room for flexibility.
Note: There will be at least one craft/artisan booth available at the Saturday morning Farmers Market. There will also be room for food purveyors at the Friday Artisans Market.
All items to be sold at the market must originate and/or be produced within Floyd County or any county adjacent to Floyd County. The intent of the Floyd Community Market is to provide a marketplace for local producers and to demonstrate that rural populations will support local farmers in such a venue. Preference will be given to products produced in Floyd County and otherwise closest to the Market location. The Market has the right to make exceptions for the allowance of goods from outside of the above described counties for the purpose of adding direct benefit and viability to the Market. However the Market cannot bring in goods that directly compete with local producers.
Floyd Virginia has always had a thriving artistic community. That is one of the things that keeps me interested in the county as a possible relocation spot. Adding a Community Artsans Market to the Friday Night street scene just makes sense. I wish everyone involved a great summer.
