Sperryville, VA — If you are driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in mid August, don’t be surprised if you see scores of ‘General Lees,’ the orange 1969 Dodge Charger which has become the most recognizable car in the world. And don’t be surprised if you see a gal that looks like Daisy Duke, because Catherine Bach, who played Daisy in the hit TV series “Dukes of Hazzard,” will be there among the several thousand fans gathering for the First Annual ‘Hazzard Homecoming’ in Sperryville, Virginia.

Ben Jones, the former Congressman who is surely better known as ‘Cooter’ from the show, is presenting the event along with his better half, Alma Viator, who has become known to Dukes fans as simply “Miss Alma.”

The couple has propelled the Dukes’ craze to unbelievable heights. They own and operate two popular Dukes themed store/museums called ‘Cooter’s Place,’ located in Gatlinburg and Nashville, Tennessee. Fans have also demonstrated their love for the popular show through the years by gathering for an annual festival Jones and Viator created that began in Sperryville in 1999. Sperryville is nestled in bucolic and scenic Rappahannock County, adjacent to the Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive.

A world-class line-up of bluegrass and Americana bands and musicians are scheduled to appear on stage at the Third Annual Song of the Mountains Festival-Smyth County Celebration at the beautiful Davis Valley Winery’s amphitheatre in Groseclose, Virginia June 25th through 27th. The Davis Valley Winery is just off exit 54 of Interstate 81 near Marion, Virginia.

“It is hard to say who is “headlining” the event,” states Tim White the executive coordinator of Song of the Mountains, “Practically every band we have booked are headliners!”

The Dan Tyminski Band will appear on Thursday the opening day of the festival. Dan is the voice of George Clooney in the movie “Oh Bother, Where art Thou?” when Clooney sings the song “Man of Constant Sorrow”. Also appearing on Thursday will be local legend Wayne Henderson, the Farewell Drifters and the Carolina Travelers.

Goose Creek Symphony along with the John Cowan Band and Lou Reid and Carolina will be headlining on Friday, June 26th. All of these bands are high-energy bands who have many faithful followers. Also on Friday the festival will include Michael Reno Harrell with his distinct style of singing and songwriting, and the unique old time and bluegrass music of West Virginia’s Hillbilly Gypsies.
